"When I go to jail, I won't cry."

So we were sitting in the living room the other afternoon - I was playing around on the laptop (shocker) and Rachel was sitting on the couch playing with her new Merliah Barbie (this one from "A Mermaid Tale" - she is now obsessed with this movie and can quote it, which drives me slowly insane, another topic for another day). We were being totally lazy, which, let's face it - is what summer is made for.

Brian had left some real-life cop show on the TV. So on the show, the police were arresting some crazy woman who was rolling around on the ground crying and whining about being arrested..... "I don't want to go to jaiillllll!" *sniff, sniff, cry, cry*.... Rachel looks up and says, in all seriousness, "Mommy, when I go to jail, I won't cry." And me, being the ever-supportive mommy I am, say "Honey, if you go to jail, I'm going to MAKE you cry." She did not quite get the sarcasm and humor in my tone. All my humor is lost on a four-year-old.

You know, to a four-year-old .... the real harm is in the CRYING over something because the only thing grown-ups say to little kids is "don't cry, stop crying, no need to cry ....". So, if you happen to watch COPS one day and see Rachel - notice that she is NOT crying. My brave, brave girl.
