I figure this is the best time as any to start a blog - my first true summer off! This is my first year working at a nine-month school - I have always worked at a year-round school. We moved from Las Vegas to Oklahoma September 2009, and I was excited about being nine-month finally! Of course, right after I LEAVE, all of the Las Vegas schools (Clark County School District) convert to nine-month next school year, but I don't take that personally.
This is my school on the last day. Of course, this was taken about 7:00 pm, because even on the last day of school, teachers don't leave school when the bell rings! The last day is always bittersweet - happy to move on, happy to get ready for the next year, but sad to "get rid" of the current class. I do my fair share of complaining about my class every year, but every year it is hard to say good bye. But as hard as it was to say good bye, I am excited for SUMMER! And summer hit us this weekend .... it is HOT.
Rachel decided she wanted a pool, since it was so hot. Of course, I had just bought her a Slip N' Slide. But that was not good enough. Granted, she doesn't quite get the concept of a Slip N' Slide. She just walks up and down it. And when she sees a bug, she yelps and runs onto the patio. She has inherited my disdain of all things creepy-crawly. SOOO, we go check out small pools at Target. She decides she wants this one:
I wanted a bigger one, but was overruled. And, by the way, the bigger one I wanted was actually CHEAPER. So we spent our first day of "summer" playing in the pool. Well, I spent most of the day outside and Rachel was in and out... because, you know, BUGS. It appears I will be playing in my fancy giraffe pool alone this summer.
We also went to the Edmond Farmer's Market. I got the yummiest strawberries from there. The corn was "eh" though - I was disappointed. It was from Texas though, so that might be the reason. haha
Rachel wanted a watermelon Italian Ice. She enjoyed about 3 bites of it, then was distracted by a lady walking around with a parrot. Yes, a parrot. On her arm. She was singing to it, and it would sing back. I am pretty sure the lady was a few french fries short of a happy meal. Who walks around with a parrot, singing? Whatever. So I ended up finishing the Italian Ice, which I did not complain about.
Anyway, it seem that summer is off with a bang. (Quite literally, we had some CRAZY thunderstorms last night. The lightning was out-of-control!) I still have work to do, even though school is out. I am spending most of June in workshops and trainings. But that is not really a big deal .... I don't have to prepare anything. So, happy me ... SUMMER IS HERE!
